Techno-Kayo Maniacs, published by P-Vine Books in the year 2000, chronicles Japanese technopop from the 1970s to the dawn of the 21st century. It features a selection of 210 records, which are curated into five separate sections.

On this webpage you'll find all 210 records, many including covers scanned by myself, as well as machine translations of the book. I've used Chat GPT and Deep L. GPT is a pain in the ass and is maybe 80% accurate whereas Deep L is more accurate but takes longer and I can't give it specific instructions (which, to be fair, GPT loves to ignore regardless).

With that said, some of my own translations are included here, which are all marked with a dagger , and are viewable from the footnotes. Later I might write some of my own entries, but a lot more work needs to be done before I get to that point.

I've also included a personal five-star rating for each of the entries (NOTE: current ratings are just tests to ensure the javascript is running correctly.)

Footnotes

Translation note

  1. I've marked entries that I've personally translated into English with a dagger .

Idol

Notes

  1. Tomoko Takabe left due to the Nyan Nyan Scandal.

New Wave

Notes

  1. Replace this with your New Wave footnote text.

Crossover

Notes

  1. The referenced song, "Chiisakute, Chiisakute", is about a tragic breakup from the perspective of a woman who is disappointed with her boyfriend's tiny penis.
  2. A pun. The band name, Seijo-tai (聖女隊), roughly translates to “Saintly Women’s Team.” The alternative spelling, 性女隊, replaces the first kanji and changes the meaning to "Sex Women's Team". Despite their different meanings, both are read Seijo-tai.

Comedy

Notes

  1. Replace this with your Comedy footnote text.

Modern

Notes

  1. Portmaneu of variety (as in variety star) and idol.
  2. Referring to the 1980 album from Yellow Magic Orchestra.
  3. In English: Since Yesterday.
